Roughing with Tapered Tools
Last week we looked at using the tool holder for collision avoidance during Global Roughing. This week we will look at a new feature of WorkNC V20, that is Tapered Tool support in Global Roughing.

Version 20 allows you to specify a tapered tool as the cutting tool for Global Rough and Rerough. Figure 1 shows a tapered tool selected and its parameters.

This tool can be used as the cutting tool. WorkNC will automatically keep the tapered portion from colliding with the stock model. Note in Figure 2, how the tool is forced to move away from the wall in the area specified, to maintain safety. This is done automatically.

When using this new tool support in WorkNC V20, it is important that you select the 3D stock model, and not the 2D stock model. This is shown in Figure 3.
